When Good Projects Go Bad

Studies suggest that as many as a quarter of projects become stalled and almost 50% fail to achieve their goals. Some of the problems are directly due to project management errors; others stem from lack of support from stakeholders.

Here are some problems that may occur:

  • Priorities in the organization have changed, but the mission of the group hasnt.
  • Team members are unclear about their roles and responsibilities and attendance at meetings is declining.
  • The scope and project requirements were never clearly defined and, consequently, there are different expectations about the end results.
  • Scope changes are out of control.
  • Cost estimates were based on incomplete information, so cost overruns are frequent.
